Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Really easy to use!
This hard drive is pre formatted, so it is a real doddle to set up and use. From out of the box to filling it up with c**p, only takes a matter of minutes. It is a small case that looks good and doesn't seem out of place on top of my desktop case.
For the price I paid Amazon (under 50 quid), I couldn't even have got anything as good or as cheap on E-bay, so if you are buying, buy it here. I checked the product on price runner and some online company's were charging double what Amazon are!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great drive, Great value, Great relief
Having lost a hard drive's contents due to a mechanical failure I have been searching for a reliable and simple to use back up solution... and here it is.

I had read some reviews but was still suprised by the ease of set up under XP (service pack 2)The drive was installed and ready to rock with 45 seconds of connecting it, I completed a format (you dont actually have to) to convert the file structure to NTFS (as its formatted to FAT32) this took about 30 mins but means everything on my network is using the same file structure.

I have been running Norton Ghost back up which works well unless you are trying to write 10 GB's of data to CD's and sure enough Ghost recognised the drive and was quite happy writing to it, a full back up of 10Gb including a verification of the data took 17 mins which is very acceptable to me. Future back ups under ghost will just be incrementals and run seamlessly and automatically so I never have to worry again about losing my data. HOORAY!

Dont bother buying a USB cable as it comes with one, do consider buying Ghost 9.0 as it is a really good solution (amazon do a bundle with internet security 2005)

Thats it - one happy camper, shame amazons delivery was a few days later than they said, but it is christmas I suppose.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Superior value external hard drive.
The Western Digital 80gb External hard drive offers excelent value speed and reliabillity. On Windows XP, just plug it in to a USB port and you are away! No fuss! Windows 98 people however, need to download a driver from the Western Digital Website.

Regardless, this drive is excellent- somewhat quiet (audiable spin up) and excellent value.

Recommended.
